Schumacher Returns in a Mercedes, Claim Various Sources

What Happens When the News is Huge, but Technically Unconfirmed

12:40am EST — According to multiple sources, both in Germany and Britain, seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher will return to a full-season drive in Formula1 with Mercedes (the team formerly known as 2009 world champions Brawn) in 2010.  The BBC is reporting that German newspaper Bild has reported that “Schumacher signed a one-year deal and it is likely he will have the option to continue beyond 2010 if his returns goes well.”  The article continues to by nothing that Schumacher will be compensated £6.2 million for his reunion with Ross Brawn, with whom he won all of his titles, both at Benetton and Ferrari.

While the likelihood that Schumacher would return has always seemed slim, particularly with the injury-aborted return last season to replace Felipe Massa at Ferrari, these are the first reports that truly lend credence to the speculation to this seemingly all-German team (Nico Rosberg has already been announced as a Mercedes driver for 2010).  As always, more information will be published when available.
