Silly Season News Continues: At Least Two Announcements Next Week

What Happens When the Off-Season Is Never Quite Off

12:02am EST — Next week should bring more news to the Formula1 world, in that both the Virgin takeover of ManorGP announcement (which was noted by the FIA last month and only someone under a rock might not know of) and the LotusF1 drivers announcement will occur on Tuesday and Monday, respectively.

The Virgin announcement was part of a week of what appeared to be irresponsibly released information, from the Force India 2010 driver announcement (Adrian Sutil and Tonio Liuzzi) to the Sauber buy-out of BMW (after the QADBAK buy-out fell through) to the announcement of a finalized deal returning the Canadian GP to the F1 calendar (June 13, 2010).

That there will be a LotusF1 driver announcement Monday was information only available to followers of team principal Tony Fernandes’ Twitter account where, Friday, he tweeted “At the fia awards. Jenson button crowned world champion. One day. Bringing home 2 drivers for the lotus F1 team. Announcment monday [sic].”

The likelihood that other news will also break next week is high, but it is always more important to go into the weekend knowing that there will be information Monday morning than, as was mentioned in an On Any Sunday, These Days rant, simply releasing information late on a Friday.
