Official: Rosberg Confirmed at Mercedes (Brawn), Second Driver Speculation Remains

What Happens When More Publicity is Good Publicity

7:47am EST — The newly named Mercedes team announced Monday, in a completely unsurprising move, that Nico Rosberg will drive a Silver Arrow for the 2010 Formula1 season.  Rosberg has long been considered a shoe-in for the seat, even before the Mercedes takeover of the 2009 constructor’s champions and driver’s champion Jenson Button’s move to McLaren.  Rosberg has driven in F1 for four years, all of them at Williams.  This announcement adds to the total number of drivers confirmed in the silliest of silly seasons: Button and Lewis Hamilton at McLaren, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber at Red Bull, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa at Ferrari, Rubens Barrichello and Nico Hulkenberg at Williams, Robert Kubica at Renault, Bruno Senna at Campos, Sebastian Buemi at Toro Rosso, and Timo Glock at Manor.

The ongoing “will he? won’t he?” speculation regarding Michael Schumacher’s return to F1 in 2010 in a Mercedes continued, as Reuters F1 correspondent Alan Baldwin put the situation on Twitter, “just finished conference call with Nico, Nick Fry and Norbert Haug. Lot of questions about Schumacher, evasive answers.”
