Raikkonen Out of F1, But Only for 2010, Says Manager

What Happens When the Grid is Bereft One World Champion

8:17pm EST — According to Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat, Kimi Raikkonen will not race in Formula1 in 2010, though he may return in 2011.  His manager Steve Robertson said Tuesday, “The options of F1 at McLaren next season, or were not any.  Kimi and McLaren were unable to reach an agreement, so he does not drive the F1 level, at least not next year,” in a translation from the original Finnish.  The article goes on to say that options are available for the 2011 season, such as Red Bull, which had been considered a hot topic of gossip for the 2010 silly season when it was mentioned that Raikkonen and McLaren were disputing the number of days Raikkonen had to perform sponsorship duties.  The paper also quoted Robertson as suggesting that Raikkonen will go rallying again during his “gap year” and might also contest the 24 Heures du Le Mans.  This would seem to leave an open path to McLaren for Jenson Button, though most anything can happen in this most silly of silly seasons.
