For Seven Year’s Work, Heidfeld Receives F1 Car From Sauber

What Happens When Seven Years in Hinwil Ends with a Car

4:20pm EST — Nick Heidfeld ended his seven years with a Peter Sauber Formula1 team Sunday, scoring four points with a fifth place position in the Abu Dhabi GP for BMW-Sauber.  “”It was a very satisfying race for me, but in the last couple of laps I had to concentrate because I started to think about it being the last race for the team and everybody. It’s quite emotional after four years…I hope they (Sauber) will be here next year. I am confident I will be here next year, it’s just a question of where,” said Heidfeld after the race.

While the future is, as yet, uncertain for both the team, with the BMW share bought by financial consortium QADBAK, and Heidfeld, “as a thank you for Nick Heidfeld’s seven years of great commitment to the team in Hinwil, Peter Sauber is giving him a formula one car from this era.”
