MotoGP Phillip Island: Simoncelli Wins Shortened 250 Race


What Happens When a Shortened Race Means a Tighter Championship Fight

12:17am EST — A shortened MotoGP 25occ Australian GP saw Marco Simoncelli taking the win and moving to second in the championship standings with two races to go in the 2009 season.  He is behind Hiroshi Aoyama by twelve points, Aoyama having 227 to Simoncelli’s 215.  The race was red flagged with six laps to go after Roberto Locatelli suffered a highside and blocked the track.  He appeared to be relatively uninjured, with only bruising to his lower back.
