F1 Brazil: Webber Tops Friday Practice 1, Despite Red Flag and Threat of Rain

What Happens When It’s Too Early to Tell

10:35am EST — Rain marked the midway point of the first practice for the 2009 Brazilian GP, and Romain Grosjean caused a red flag by scattering debris from a polystyrene braking marker all over the track, but still it was Mark Webber who was fastest in the first practice session.  Rubens Barrichello, Sebastian Vettel, Heikki Kovalainen, and Lewis Hamilton made up the top five.  While these times are not generally a great marker of race pace, they do indicate that the Red Bulls and McLarens (as suspected) are fast around Interlagos, and that Barrichello is yet again out-performing his teammate Button.
