Another 2 Weeks for Donington Renovations

What Happens When a Deadline Isn’t Really a Deadline

12:29pm EST — According to Autosport Formula1 editor Ed Straw, “Donington Park has been given yet another deadline – now has two weeks to prove it has the funding in place for the 2010 British GP.”  Autosport further explained that Simon Gillett, in charge of updating the track to F1 specifications, has announced that “Donington Ventures Leisure Limited has another two weeks from today to further demonstrate our credentials for hosting the British Formula 1 Grand Prix and to provide full information regarding our financial backing and construction timescales.”  This is the second or third extension Donington has received, though Bernie Eccelstone remains doubtful that “the circuit would be ready at this late stage,” even if they receive the appropriate money now.  Gillett, however, “appreciate[s] the British public’s growing frustration with regard to uncertainty that has been cast over the country’s largest and most successful motorsport event, but remain committed to delivering on the promises that we made at the start of this process and have the interests of the sport and its fans at heart.”  More information will be published when the next deadline extension is announced.
